Regulatory Compliance

IRDAI Guidelines

Consumer protection regulations, code of conduct, and guidelines issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India.

1. Overview

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is the statutory body established under the IRDA Act, 1999, to protect the interests of insurance policyholders, regulate and promote the insurance industry, and ensure orderly growth of the sector. As an authorized independent agent of LIC of India, Bhaiyasaheb Y. Patil strictly adheres to all IRDAI regulations.

2. Code of Conduct for Insurance Agents

Under the IRDAI (Registration of Insurance Agents) Regulations, every insurance agent must abide by a strict Code of Conduct. Some of the core responsibilities include:

  • Identify himself/herself and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) of whom he/she is an agent.
  • Disclose his/her registration/license details (Agent Code: 2275967) upon request.
  • Explain all options, benefits, exclusions, and financial implications of a policy honestly.
  • Provide advice based strictly on the prospect's needs and financial capabilities.
  • Ensure the prospect is informed about the necessary details regarding premium payments, claims, nomination procedures, and policy revival.

3. Prohibition of Rebates (Section 41)

In accordance with Section 41 of the Insurance Act, 1938, no person shall allow or offer to allow, either directly or indirectly, as an inducement to any person to take out or renew or continue an insurance in respect of any kind of risk relating to lives or property in India, any rebate of the whole or part of the commission payable or any rebate of the premium shown on the policy.

Any person making default in complying with the provisions of Section 41 shall be liable for a penalty which may extend to Ten Lakh Rupees (₹10,00,000).

4. Free-Look Period

As per IRDAI guidelines, every new life insurance policyholder has a Free-Look Period of 15 days (30 days in case of policies obtained through distance marketing or electronic mode) from the date of receipt of the policy document to review the terms and conditions. If you disagree with any terms, you have the option to return the policy to LIC for cancellation, stating your reasons, and obtain a refund of premium paid (subject to deductions for medical examinations, stamp duty, and proportionate risk premium).

5. Policyholder Grievance Redressal

If you have a complaint regarding your policy or service:

  1. Contact Bhaiyasaheb Y. Patil or the Branch Manager of the LIC Amalner Servicing Branch.
  2. If not satisfied, register your grievance on the official LIC Grievance Portal or through the IRDAI Bima Bharosa Portal.
  3. For unresolved complaints, policyholders can approach the local Insurance Ombudsman office within their jurisdiction.
